On 16th August 2003 Richard Westgate flew a Windtech Syncro 113.2km from the XClent winch site near Cheltenham to Sennybridge near Brecon, breaking Graham Steele's 1998 record of 105km from the same site.
Richard's flight took just over four hours, tracking to the south of the Malverns (from where several long flights were made the same day), over Pandy and the Black Mountains. Richard says there was no sun on the ground for over 70km, making the flight pretty slow.
"On the right day Pembrokeshire and 230km are definitely possible from XClent in an easterly!" said Richard afterwards. |
